I'm a single mother/grandmother who has the great privilege of living in Sheridan, WY, voted the #1 Western Town in the U.S. a couple years ago.  I am, by no means, a cowgirl, but I am an ol' farm girl.  I have raised three children and have six grandchildren, the youngest of whom is 6 months and the oldest is 13 years.  I make my "living" as a work-from-home medical transcriptionist, having started out in this field 39 years ago.

I got started in card making in 2004, while living in Billings, MT, when I decided I wanted to make a handmade card for one of my grandsons' fourth birthday.  I made a trip to Michael's and purchased some 3-D birthday stickers and a packet of colorful paper.  I had purchased a set of Perfect Layers cutting guides and a craft knife as well as some glitter glue from the school supply isle at Target.  I added a photo of my grandson, and I think I did a pretty good job, though it was a bit "thick" with all the layers I added.  LOL!  I was told that he carried his card around with him for days, so I guess he liked it.

From there, in a search for more ways to create cards, I discovered the local stamp store and signed up for classes.  I took classes from some amazingly creative ladies, one of whom you might know from her blog, "Out to Impress," Ms. Julie Koerber.  I ended up moving to Sheridan in 2005, where I worked part time in the LSS and began to teach classes myself.  It was through those classes that I made many friends and discovered that I had talents I hadn't realized I had.  When the store closed a couple years ago, at the encouragement of those who had taken my classes, I became a demonstrator for The Angel Company.  I post the cards I create here:  http://community.webshots.com/user/kayellmt

I enjoy the challenge of creating a handmade card from scratch and I am constantly on the lookout for new "tools" and gadgets to make them more interesting.  It was through my reading of blogs, I discovered the Quikutz Silhouette machine and after some research, purchased one and joined up with several of the on-line lists.  I recently participated in a challenge promoted by Chris Durnan of "Visual Designs by Chris."  I had a blast!  Tina has now invited me to become a member of her design team and I can't tell you how tickled I am.  I look forward to playing and creating with her designs, continuing to challenge myself to design new cards.  Who knows, I may even eventually wander into the realm of scrapbooking!
